To offer the lowest possible "public wholesale" product pricing, the cost of shipping is not factored into the price of each individually handmade item. Shipping rates are calculated in a transparent fashion by cubic weight according to the terms of each carrier.
Please note: Clients are responsible for providing correct shipping information at checkout. Please double check that your address is correct before submitting your order. Just the Goods can help you make changes to your shipping address before your order has shipped, but can not make any changes to your address after your order has been shipped. Thank you.
Brexit came into effect on January 1, 2021 and that means changes to how Just the Goods ships to addresses in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
The UK has decided that any parcel imported into the UK under £135 GBP is subject to VAT that must be paid *at the international point of sale*, then forwarded on to the British government instead of simply being collected by British customs agents, as in the case for any import over £135 GBP (approx $235 CAD).
I’m still in the process of deciding whether Just the Goods should register for an independent VAT collection number, which is itself a matter of determining how much administration and expense it will entail. In the meantime, I’ve learned that Etsy has set itself up to collect and re-direct VAT on behalf of their sellers, so it provides a perfect interim solution.
And so, if you’re either located in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, or if you’re from another location shipping into these countries/regions, please know that I’ll be able to collect your shipping rate via my website so I can generate a proper shipping label for you, bu I’ll need to move your order to Etsy so you can pay both the VAT calculated at checkout and the 5% service fee charged by Etsy to use their platform.
I’ve already had a chance to troubleshoot this workaround with my first UK-based clients of 2021 and -- of all the possibilities we explored -- re-directing an order placed at justthegoods.net through Etsy was the most logical approach. I apologize for the extra step, but it ultimately assures required taxes are collected and re-directed so your order is more likely to reach its destination without delay or risk of being returned to sender.
I hope this is helpful information for everyone affected! Ooh, in case you were wondering, the Republic of Ireland is part of the EU which -- as of July 1 -- also requiring the same approach to collection of VAT at point of sale, in addition to other tarrif code requirements.
Having said this...
Orders to England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland ship via Canada Post or USPS on Fridays. As of February 2020, Just the Goods no longer offers discounted Canada Post or USPS shipping services to international destinations because they do not include door-to-door tracking or guaranteed delivery dates, and those features have come to be expected as standard. Only XpressPost by Canada Post and International Priority by USPS will be offered from those carriers.
Delivery by UPS is also available and may be the default carrier in cases where the weight of a parcel exceeds the limit for a regional carrier. DHL is no longer offered due to lack of reliablity.
